John Saunders, executive vice president at Fleishman-Hillard has replaced Carlos Lareau, Chief Operating Officer for Burson Marsteller Worldwide as the President of the International Communications Consultants Organisation (ICCO). Saunders took up the position at the international trade association’s annual Board of Management meeting, which met in Prague, Czech Republic on Saturday 22nd October, following its highly successful Global Summit.

Saunders, aged 47, was recently appointed regional director for Fleishman-Hillard's Continental European operations and promoted to executive vice president and senior partner. As part of the promotion, he joined the agency’s 18-member global senior management committee. He remains a director of Fleishman-Hillard in Dublin, Ireland’s largest and most respected agency, which he founded in 1990 and sold to Fleishman-Hillard in 2001.

Commenting on his successor, Carlos Lareau said: “I am delighted to be handing over the presidency to John. He will bring to the job not only enormous energy but a truly international perspective. The ICCO’s members will also benefit from his undoubted management skills”.

Lareau stays at the ICCO for a further year as a vice President, while Saunders will serve as President for two years.
